In the future, land use and how we produce our food will be two of the most important issues. Agropolis aims to investigate the potential of urban living and food production with the neighborhood integrated in the farm.

Agropolis

A first in Norway, Agropolis will be a whole new take on how to combine housing and farming. On site, up to 800 housing units will be surrounded by farming on different levels, from conventional greenhouses, high-tech greenhouses and biodiversity farming on land. Inhabitants can choose the level of involvement, it is possible to live here and only grow herbs on your balcony, but you can also grow your own food or the community’s food. A farmer will take care of the professional part of the farming and run the common greenhouses.

In addition to housing and farming, the area will provide a kindergarten with focus on farming, a school site and several common buildings that can house co-working spaces, on-site shops and cultural activities for the whole city of Mjøndalen.

The site is located only 5-10 minutes by bike or foot to the city center/ train station. From there, bigger cities are only a short train ride away, for instance Drammen (10 min), Oslo (45 min) and Kongsberg (35 min).
